Please touch me
Isn't it crazy that I work with textile because I love it's tactile nature but don't let other people touch my work?
Hang my work on a wall and stick a 'do not touch' notice next to it.
Sometimes quilt angels in white cotton gloves will lift a corner to let you see the stitching on the back. Other than that? Well you need to buy my work if you want to touch it. Crazy!
So how to make a piece of textile art that can be touched and is interesting to touch? Within the rules we have agreed on as a group. And within the extra rules I set myself - those rules that restrict my use of colour, that prohibit my usual straight lines? And using the fabrics I printed at the beginning of the challenge? Can I use stitch to create an interesting surface? Can I coat stitched fabric to make it hard?
Guess you will have to wait to see. Or should I say wait to touch?
