Ear Worms
The prompt for this quilt was Lyrically Speaking and the temptation to use lyrics was strong but I am very aware of copyright issues so avoided this direction.
However over the last few years I have been plagued with Ear Worms - those snatches of tunes or lyrics that appear out of nowhere and refuse to go away, sometimes for days. They drive me mad so this was my opportunity to fight back.
I had recently seen Linda and Laura Kemshall demonstrate how to make double sided circle blocks so had fun making two sizes of them using a piece of my hand painted fabric
The holes needed to be on another layer and I had another piece of shibori fabric with circles just the right size to use but had to cut it up and piece it to match the circles with the holes
I used another piece of hand painted fabric to make a long strip of bias which I wove in and out of the holes in circular designs to create my 'worms'. These were then stitched down using a blind (well sot of blind) appliqué stitch.
I quilted it by highlighting the holes first and then free motion bubbles over the surface for texture
I like the effect and learning new techniques doing these pieces. As usual - the problem solving is the best part of the journey for me.
