Down the Road

Whenever you look down a road it always looks the same. Perspective creates a triangle in varying dimensions or angles but a triangle. Usually with a horizon as well.

I liked this design so wanted to keep this quilt simple due to the fact that I was travelling a lot over the prompt's timeline.
At a friends studio in NZ on a rare day off, I asked if she had any white fabric I could use as I already had paints etc. She offered me a beautiful vintage heavy cotton sheet which had been around for 20 years and didn't fit any of her beds. It still had a label on it.
Her studio is an old railway station complete with wood burning stove and lots of big tables.

It was such a great space and I was able to paint the whole piece.

I then fused the whole fabric length with Mistyfuse
Then I started to cut randomly into the piece and fused pieces together to create little blocks each representing a road and horizon. I added a thin striped line down the centre of each block to mimic the road markings.

Once I had enough blocks I laid them out and then fused them together using leftover bits and strips to fill in any gaps.
I did this all in one day and was very proud of myself.
Once home I had the great pleasure of using my relatively new Bernina Q20 to practice using a ruler to create relatively straight lines. Practice makes perfect.
