Broken Circles
The world is a sad place at the moment. There are few countries who are not suffering either politically or environmentally.
The prompt of Disunity raised quite a few ideas in my head but one of the recurring themes which lasted related to circles. Circles are a symbol of completeness and when they are broken - things go wrong.
I made this quilt from one piece of fabric. I used the process of deconstructed or breakdown printing - this in itself is a techniques dependent on images and textures disappearing. I had help from a friend as my hand was still in plaster. Where would we be without friends
I added a bit of contrasting colour in the original printing process and these pieces became my islands in a sea of turmoil.
The circles were created using discharge paste which removes the colour and thus creating another discordant or disunited note.
Machine quilted on my fabulous Bernina Q20 which made all those lines so easy
Of course the circles could not be complete because - like the rest of the world - they are also broken
