I Am Who I Am
I am an introspective type of person. I think I am the only one who truely knows the mess that is in my head. So I felt I should attempt a self portrait for this prompt as it would be a first for me and an attempt to look closely at myself.
I asked my husband to take some photos of me. Then and there - with no preparation or makeup or even brushing my hair. Funnily enough I quite liked them as they were the closest I had seen of me in a while.
Playing around in Photoshop created some interesting variations of the image and I started to become enthused about the project.
I printed about 4 metres of white fabric with a thermofax screen I had made of one of the altered images and then painted the yardage with 6 shades of blue fabric paint. It is very surreal printing you face over and over.
These fabrics were then layered according to a full size print I had made of one of the images. The girl at the print shop and I are getting very friendly.
Layer upon layer and my face started appearing.
I created another thermofax screen to print I am who I am on the background fabric.
I was late doing the quilting but enjoyed the process on my Bernina Q20
