Biometric Touch

My inspiration came from my new laptop that I got at the same time Lisa posed her challenge to us. It has not only a touch screen and a touch pad but also a small touch pad that is used to read my fingerprint to identify me when I login. It is amazing how much more tactile our relationship with computers has become over the years, and I wanted to visualize that.

First I stamped the grey background fabric with ones and zeroes to represent the binary code that is the foundation of every computer function.

I cut and fused a negative and a positive fingerprint onto the background fabrics, to visualize the biometrically identifying touch. They also represent all the positive and negative that comes from having computers reign our everyday lives in so many aspects.

The quilting lines mimic the whorls and loops of the fingerprint.

I printed more binary code on organza to tone down the really bright and colourful batik.

Touching technology is something I do every day and never think about, so thanks Lisa for making me more aware of this!
